Global Leaders Unite to Celebrate India's 80th Independence Day

International Greetings on a Historic Occasion

Kathmandu/Singapore: On Saturday, India marked its 80th Independence Day, receiving heartfelt congratulations from global partners, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, and Iran, who reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and regional collaboration.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian were among the leaders who acknowledged India's significant milestone.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio represented the United States in extending warm wishes to India.

Macron expressed his sentiments on social media, stating, "Congratulations to the Indian people on your 80th Independence Day!"

Putin conveyed his greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the importance of their constructive partnership in promoting international security and stability.

He noted that the relationship between Russia and India is thriving under a "particularly privileged strategic partnership," highlighting their fruitful cooperation across various sectors and their close coordination in international organizations.

"I am confident that our joint efforts will continue to strengthen the constructive Russia-India partnership for the benefit of our friendly peoples and in the interests of enhancing international security and stability," Putin remarked.

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office also shared their wishes, stating, "Wishing Indians in the UK, in India, and around the world a very happy 80th Independence Day."

Australian Prime Minister Albanese praised India's progress over the past eight decades, noting its status as the world's largest democracy and fastest-growing major economy. He expressed admiration for India's achievements and potential.

Albanese recalled his recent meeting with Modi in Australia, where he emphasized the significance of their relationship, stating, "Our relationship has never been more consequential."

"We are excited to deepen Australia and India’s engagement in new and growing areas, supported by the many Australians of Indian heritage who serve as a living bridge in our valued friendship," he added.

Maldivian leader Muizzu reiterated his country's commitment to strengthening ties with India, stating, "Eight decades of Independence reflect the aspirations, resilience, and enduring spirit of the Government and people of India."

He reaffirmed the Maldives' dedication to advancing their partnership based on mutual respect and shared prosperity.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also extended his wishes to India's leadership and its people, expressing hope for the continued strengthening of the friendship between Israel and India.

In a letter to President Murmu, Singapore's Tharman Shanmugaratnam congratulated India, emphasizing their shared interest in a peaceful and connected region. He expressed Singapore's commitment to working closely with India to enhance regional integration and resilience.

Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra 'Balen' Shah sent heartfelt greetings to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India, wishing for the continued strengthening of historical ties and cooperation.

Masoud Pezeshkian also congratulated Modi and the Indian populace, highlighting the deep historical and cultural connections between their nations.

Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay conveyed warm wishes to India, expressing hope for the flourishing of their enduring friendship.

Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih described India's journey since 1947 as an inspiration for developing nations, emphasizing the importance of their cooperative ties.

Earlier, Marco Rubio reiterated the strength of US-India relations, attributing it to the personal bond between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, and highlighting the collaborative efforts that enhance safety and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also extended greetings, expressing a desire to build upon the historic ties between the two nations.

Armenia's Foreign Ministry expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation with India, emphasizing their civilizational ties and mutual trust.

Other leaders, including Slovak Republic President Peter Pellegrini and Nepal's former deputy prime minister Rabi Lamichhane, also shared their congratulations.
