Rescue Operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Authorities in Pakistan have successfully rescued a French woman, Sylvie Yasmina, along with her five children, after she reported that her husband had held them captive and subjected them to years of abuse in the northwest region of the country. The rescue took place earlier this week in Bara, a town located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, close to the Afghan border. Police have arrested her husband, Ahmad Khan, and initiated an investigation into the serious allegations.

According to police reports, the rescue was facilitated when one of Yasmina's sons managed to escape the house and reach a nearby police station. Officers subsequently conducted a raid on the residence, discovering Yasmina and her children confined in a small, severely deteriorated room. District police chief Waqar Ahmad noted that Yasmina exhibited visible injuries, and the children also had bruises.
In her statement to the authorities, Yasmina recounted the daily physical and psychological abuse inflicted by her husband, describing him as having a violent nature. She expressed, "We were deprived [of our] freedom," detailing how her husband subjected them to constant pressure and violence.
Background on Sylvie Yasmina
Sylvie Yasmina, a French citizen, married her Pakistani spouse in 2003. The family reportedly resided in Australia until 2014 before moving to Pakistan with their two older children. Yasmina informed investigators that her freedom had been severely restricted since relocating to Pakistan, effectively isolating her from the outside world. Police indicated that she was prohibited from socializing, and the two eldest children missed several years of schooling, while the three younger children, born in Pakistan, were never enrolled in any educational institution.
"I felt that my future was already ruined, and the future of the children would also be ruined," Yasmina stated in a media release. Following the rescue, Yasmina and her children have been placed in a women's shelter in Peshawar for their safety. She has expressed a strong desire to return to France, and Pakistani officials are working with the French embassy to facilitate her repatriation. In a video shared by police, Yasmina expressed her gratitude to the officers for their assistance and reiterated her wish to go back home to France.
