Explosions Reported Near Bandar Abbas Amid Ongoing Iran-US Negotiations
Explosions Near Bandar Abbas
On Monday, Iran's Fars news agency reported multiple explosions heard in the vicinity of Bandar Abbas, although the source and precise location remain unclear. Residents in Bandar Abbas described hearing several loud explosions, with similar sounds reported in the Persian Gulf near Sirik and Jask. A local witness mentioned, "There were three loud explosions in quick succession, very close by, seemingly from the tactical air base." This incident coincides with an Iranian delegation's visit to Qatar, where discussions are ongoing between Tehran and the United States aimed at reaching an agreement to conclude a prolonged conflict.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, along with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, were noted to be in Doha to address key issues related to a potential deal to resolve the nearly three-month-long US-Israel conflict involving Iran. Earlier on Monday, US President Donald Trump emphasized that any agreement with Iran must be substantial, warning that the alternative would be "no deal." This statement followed Trump's assertion that a deal with Tehran was "largely negotiated," despite both parties displaying inconsistent attitudes towards the progress of talks.
Since April 8, Washington and Tehran have maintained a ceasefire, while mediators are advocating for a negotiated resolution. Nevertheless, Iran has continued to restrict access to the Strait of Hormuz for most shipping, and the US has enforced a blockade on Iranian ports.
