Brush Fire Near Oceanside Airport Triggers Evacuations
A brush fire near Oceanside Airport led to evacuation orders and alerts on Monday morning, as firefighters and law enforcement worked diligently to safeguard local residents and businesses. The incident, referred to as the Airport Fire, was first detected around 10:17 AM on Airport Road. Emergency teams swiftly arrived at the location as the fire began to spread in the vicinity of the airport and adjacent areas.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for regions north of State Route 76, which included Oceanside Airport, the San Luis Rey River bed, and the residential area situated north of the river. Additionally, Oceanside police were evacuating nearby homes and the Prince of Peace Abbey, with Zone 0427 under an evacuation directive.

Residents who were evacuated were directed to an emergency center set up at the El Corazon Senior Center, located at 3480 Village Commercial Drive. Furthermore, evacuation warnings were issued for areas east of the San Luis Rey River, extending to Douglas Drive and northward toward Pala Road. Officials advised those in warning zones to stay vigilant and be ready to evacuate if the situation worsens.
The fire also affected local organizations, with the San Diego Humane Society announcing the evacuation of its campus at 576 Airport Road and a temporary closure to the public due to the fire. The organization confirmed that all staff, animals, and operations were being moved to its facility at 2905 San Luis Rey Road in Oceanside.
City officials reported that firefighting resources were dispatched to the scene shortly after the fire was detected. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and have urged residents to adhere to evacuation orders and steer clear of the affected areas while crews work to control the blaze.
