Military Actions Intensify Along the Afghan Border
Islamabad: The situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan has become increasingly tense as Islamabad reportedly initiated ground operations and air strikes near the Afghan border. Pakistani officials claim that their military actions resulted in the elimination of 29 militants across the border. Attaullah Tarar, the Pakistani Minister of Information, shared on social media that these military operations were a direct response to recent terrorist attacks within Pakistan. He detailed that precision strikes targeted three locations in Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar.
Despite these claims, there has been no official response from Afghanistan regarding Pakistan's assertions. Pakistan has accused the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of orchestrating violent attacks against its security forces. In recent years, there has been a notable increase in such attacks. For instance, on Saturday night, militants assaulted a Sindh Rangers compound in Karachi, resulting in the deaths of four Pakistani soldiers, while six militants were neutralized and one captured. This incident marked the first significant terrorist attack in Karachi since October 2024, with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of the banned TTP, claiming responsibility. The militants attacked the Rangers' Bhittai Wing headquarters in the densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area around 8:30 PM, leading to a nearly 90-minute gunfight that concluded with the intervention of Special Security Unit commandos and the Anti-Terrorist Force.
The last major TTP assault in Karachi occurred in February 2023, when militants targeted the Karachi Police Office on Shahrah-e-Faisal, resulting in numerous casualties.
India Dismisses Pakistan's Claims
India Rejected Pakistan's "Baseless" Allegations:
On Sunday, India firmly rejected Pakistan's "baseless allegations" concerning the recent Karachi incident and urged Islamabad to take substantial action against terrorist infrastructure within its borders. Official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to media inquiries about Pakistan's claims, stating, "We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. We categorically reject them." He emphasized that Pakistan should focus on addressing its own issues rather than blaming others, urging it to dismantle the terror infrastructure on its territory and abandon its reliance on terrorism as a state policy.
