Intensified Hostilities Between Houthis and Saudi Coalition

Riyadh/Sanaa: The ongoing conflict in Yemen has escalated as the Houthi movement and the Saudi-led coalition engaged in heavy exchanges of fire. The Houthis reported launching extensive missile and drone strikes across various locations in Saudi Arabia, while the coalition responded with significant airstrikes on Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen, resulting in numerous casualties.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea announced that the group executed seven missile and drone assaults targeting key infrastructures, including airports and oil facilities in cities such as Riyadh, Yanbu, Rabigh, Dammam, Najran, and Khamis Mushait on Saturday.

Sarea detailed that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was struck in two phases, with additional attacks aimed at Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.

In retaliation, the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting and destroying several missiles aimed at Riyadh, Taif, and Yanbu, along with a drone in the Eastern Province.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Saudi Arabia indicated that debris from two intercepted missiles landed in the Mecca and Medina regions. The Houthis refuted claims of targeting these holy cities, labeling them as 'false and unfounded.'

The Houthi group asserted that their attacks were a response to approximately 100 Saudi airstrikes on Houthi territories, including the capital Sanaa and the Red Sea port city of Mocha, within the last 24 hours.

According to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the airstrikes resulted in multiple fatalities, with reports of eight individuals killed and over ten injured when strikes hit accommodations for cement factory workers in the Hamdan district of Sanaa province.

These military actions coincide with the intensified 'Dawn of Yemen' offensive by Yemen's internationally recognized government forces, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, against the Houthis, who have retaliated with missile and drone strikes.

In a separate announcement, Sarea mentioned that Houthi forces targeted what he referred to as Saudi-backed 'mobilizations' at Al-Nasr camp and a naval military base in Aden, the base of Yemen's government.

A local security official disclosed that the Houthis launched nearly four ballistic missiles towards Aden, with some landing near Aden International Airport and critical military sites in the Khormaksar district, while another struck the Coast Guard headquarters in Al-Tawahi.

In light of the escalating situation, the US Department of State updated its travel advisories for several Middle Eastern nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, and Israel, citing potential threats from the Houthis.

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since late 2014, following the Houthi takeover of the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
