Swalwell's background reveals a diverse upbringing. Born in Sac City, Iowa, he was raised in Dublin, California, as the oldest of four brothers. His early jobs ranged from delivering newspapers at age 10 to working in window frame installations during his teenage years. A Division One soccer scholarship allowed him to be the first in his family to attend college. While at the University of Maryland, he interned for Representative Ellen Tauscher on Capitol Hill. After graduating from law school, he served as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, where he led the Hate Crimes Unit. In 2010, Swalwell was elected to the Dublin city council and currently serves on the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees. He is also the founder of Future Forum, a collective of younger Democratic lawmakers, and co-chairs both the bipartisan Critical Materials Caucus and the Personalized Medicine Caucus. Swalwell resides with his wife Brittany, a small business owner, and their three children.
