A Cultural Hub in Paris

Paris: S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, recently toured the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Paris, expressing optimism that the newly renovated venue will become a focal point for those interested in Indian art and culture.

In a message shared on X, Jaishankar remarked, "I visited the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Paris and was impressed by the vibrant expressions of India's cultural and spiritual heritage."

He added, "I am confident that this renovated centre will act as a hub in Paris, fostering a deeper appreciation for Indian art and culture."

The centre features stunning Indian art displays, including tree-of-life murals adorned with elephants and peacocks, along with intricate miniature paintings that reflect India's spiritual legacy.

Managed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, this centre serves as a diplomatic asset aimed at strengthening Indo-French relations, in line with commitments made during Prime Minister Modi's discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron in February to enhance cultural hubs across Europe.

Jaishankar arrived in France on March 27 to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

During this meeting, he underscored the significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in enhancing global connectivity, especially in light of current geopolitical challenges.

He pointed out that ongoing conflicts in West Asia highlight the necessity for robust trade routes and secure supply chains.

In his address, Jaishankar emphasized that India's growing trade agreements with key global partners, including the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the United Kingdom, have significantly bolstered the IMEC.

He also acknowledged the increasing enthusiasm among international partners to support this connectivity initiative. Furthermore, he stressed the urgent need for reforms within the United Nations Security Council and addressed the challenges faced by the Global South.

On social media, he shared insights about IMEC during the second session of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting with invited partners, stating, "The uncertainties stemming from conflicts in West Asia only strengthen the case for more resilient trade corridors and supply chains."

He concluded by noting, "India's FTAs with the European Union, EFTA members, and the UK have further enhanced the utility of IMEC."
