Dubai Faces Escalating Threats Amid Ongoing Conflict with Iran
Intensifying Conflict in Dubai
On Sunday morning, residents in various districts of Dubai were startled awake by loud noises as the conflict in the Middle East reached its 16th day. The sounds were particularly prominent in areas like Dubai Marina and Al Sufouh. The Dubai Media Office later clarified that these noises were due to successful interceptions by the UAE's advanced air defense systems. Similar incidents had been reported in the preceding days, with loud blasts heard in central Dubai on Saturday and similar disturbances in the downtown area on Friday. Witnesses indicated that a suspected Iranian drone strike targeted the Dubai International Financial Centre, resulting in significant explosions and thick smoke billowing into the air. An AFP correspondent noted that a powerful double explosion was strong enough to shake nearby buildings, followed by a large cloud of black smoke rising over the central district.

In addition, operations at the UAE's Fujairah oil terminal were disrupted following Iranian strikes on Sunday. Dark smoke was seen rising from Fujairah as firefighters battled the blaze for hours, with reports of injuries to a Jordanian national. Consequently, some oil loading operations at the port were halted. The Port of Fujairah, located on the Gulf of Oman, is a vital energy hub for the UAE and global oil markets, allowing oil exports to bypass the critical Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint for energy supplies.
Dubai Under Siege from Iranian Attacks
As the conflict with Iran escalates, Dubai, a significant global financial and aviation center, is experiencing multiple direct attacks. Emirati officials reported that over 1,700 missiles and drones have been launched toward the UAE since the onset of the conflict, with air defenses successfully intercepting most of them. However, some strikes and falling debris have impacted residential areas, offices, and roads, resulting in four civilian fatalities and numerous injuries. The situation remains tense in West Asia, particularly following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in coordinated military strikes by the US and Israel on February 28.
