Drone Incident Halts Flights at Dubai International Airport
Flight Operations Suspended Due to Drone Strike
Flight services at Dubai International Airport have been temporarily halted following an incident where an Iranian drone reportedly struck the runway after being intercepted. A video circulating online captured the moment the drone impacted, resulting in a significant cloud of smoke rising from the runway. Witnesses at the airport reported hearing a loud explosion at the time of the incident.
In light of this event, authorities decided to suspend all flight operations to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The Dubai Media Office, representing the UAE government, confirmed this decision via a social media update, stating, "For the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crew, operations at Dubai International (DXB) have been temporarily suspended."
Earlier on the same day, Dubai International Airport had just lifted a temporary suspension of its operations, which had been in place due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The airport had partially resumed operations on March 7, with some flights operating from both DXB and DWC. However, passengers were advised to avoid traveling to the airport unless they had received confirmation from their airline regarding their flight status, as schedules were still subject to change.
