Recently, Huerta came forward with serious allegations against Cesar Chavez, revealing that she endured two non-consensual sexual encounters with him that resulted in pregnancies. For many years, she kept these incidents private, believing it was essential to protect the farmworker movement she dedicated her life to. "I carried this secret for as long as I did because building the movement and securing farmworker rights was my life's work," Huerta stated.

She recounted feeling manipulated and pressured into sexual relations, unable to refuse due to Chavez's position as her superior and a figure she respected. Both encounters led to pregnancies, which Huerta kept hidden, arranging for the children to be raised by other families while maintaining relationships with them.

Huerta emphasized that the allegations against Chavez do not represent the values of their community or movement, asserting that the farmworker movement is larger and more significant than any single individual. The Dolores Huerta Foundation provides support for survivors of sexual assault.

In light of these revelations, the UFW has announced its decision to distance itself from Chavez and will not participate in Cesar Chavez Day celebrations, a recognized holiday in several states. The Cesar Chavez Foundation expressed its shock and sadness regarding the allegations and is collaborating with the UFW to address the situation.
