Dollar General Class Action Settlement: Claim Your Share Before Deadline
Important Settlement Information for Dollar General Shoppers
If you've ever shopped at Dollar General and noticed discrepancies between the price you paid and the price displayed on the shelves, you may be eligible for a portion of an $8.5 million class action settlement. This settlement arises from a lawsuit in New Jersey, where the retailer was accused of charging customers different prices than those advertised. Although Dollar General denies any wrongdoing, the settlement is now available for affected shoppers nationwide.
The settlement applies to customers who, between October 10, 2016, and November 19, 2025, paid a price that differed from the shelf price at any Dollar General location. There are two ways to benefit from this settlement:
- Cash Payment: You may receive up to $10 for each valid complaint (with a maximum of $20 per household) if you can prove that you reported a price overcharge to Dollar General or a consumer protection agency, and it was not resolved. If the overcharge exceeded $10, you can claim the actual higher amount, still capped at $20 per household. Objective evidence, such as receipts, is required.
- In-Store Benefit: All class members can obtain a $3 coupon for their next purchase of $10 or more (before tax). This coupon can be used during a specified two-day period (excluding Saturdays) that will be announced later. No proof is necessary for this option.
If you received an email confirming your participation in the settlement, you do not need to take any additional steps to receive the in-store credit. However, to claim the cash payment, you must submit your claim by April 13, 2026. If you did not receive a notice but believe you qualify, you can still file a claim by providing details such as the item purchased, store location, shelf price, and the amount you paid.
To claim the in-store credit, you will need a myDG account or can complete an online registration form. If you lack an account, Dollar General will send you a postcard or email with the credit. The settlement has received final court approval, but the exact timeline for distributing cash payments or in-store credits remains uncertain.
