In contrast to many restaurant closures that stem from financial struggles, this particular shutdown is due to the demolition of the building housing the Gowanus location, which is set to be replaced by a new apartment complex. The restaurant's lease has reached its conclusion. The chain expressed gratitude on Facebook, stating, "After 15 wonderful years, our lease has ended, and the building will be demolished to make way for new apartments." They acknowledged the significance of the location, saying, "While it's never easy to say goodbye to a place like this, we are incredibly grateful for every guest, every regular, and every team member who helped make Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Brooklyn what it is."

The restaurant also honored the community it served for 15 years, emphasizing that it was more than just a dining establishment. "Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Brooklyn has been more than just a restaurant. It's been a place for friends, families, first dates, celebrations, and plenty of unforgettable nights in Gowanus. But what really made this place special wasn't just the building. At its height, Dinosaur operated ten locations across various states, including Connecticut, New Jersey, Chicago, and Baltimore, but all out-of-state branches have since closed.
