Debunking the Viral Image of Trump’s Statue Vandalism
The Truth Behind the Viral Statue Image
A widely circulated image on social media claiming that a golden statue of former US President Donald Trump at his Doral golf resort in Florida was vandalized has been identified as false. This image, which has gained traction on platforms like X, Facebook, and TikTok, depicts the large statue purportedly dismembered and lying next to its pedestal at Trump’s Doral National Golf Club in Miami. Some iterations of this claim even suggested that the statue was covered in trash.
However, investigations reveal no evidence supporting the claim of vandalism. Reports confirm that there are no official statements, police documentation, or credible news sources that validate such an event. The image in question is believed to be AI-generated, part of a broader trend of manipulated visuals circulating online regarding the statue.
The 15-foot tall golden statue, referred to as “Don Colossus,” was unveiled at Trump’s Doral golf course on May 6. Its installation quickly drew criticism, with detractors accusing Trump of self-aggrandizement. The controversy heightened when the statue’s dedication ceremony was officiated by evangelical pastor and Trump supporter Mark Burns. Critics likened the statue to a “golden calf,” raising concerns about idol worship, especially in light of Trump’s previous sharing of an AI-generated image portraying himself as Jesus.
In response to the backlash, Burns took to X to defend the statue. He stated, “Let me say this plainly: this is not a golden calf. This statue is not about worship. It is about honor.” He emphasized that the statue was created with the backing of over 6,000 Trump supporters and described it as “a powerful symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, courage, and the will to keep fighting for America.”
Burns further clarified, “We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. Honor is not worship. Respect is not idolatry.” As of now, Trump and his team have not issued any public comments regarding the ongoing criticism of the statue.
