Viral Video Raises Concerns

A video that has gone viral depicts an Indian student in the United States brandishing a handgun, igniting significant controversy on social media and prompting calls for an official inquiry. Many users on various platforms have demanded his deportation following the video's widespread circulation. The footage features Akhilesh Chetla Ravi, an Indian student, inside what seems to be a convenience store or gas station, holding a handgun while background audio includes the phrase 'shots fired.' The clip initially appeared on a Snapchat account associated with him before it gained traction across social media.

However, independent verification of the video's authenticity and the firearm depicted has not been confirmed.

Background on Akhilesh Chetla Ravi

Akhilesh Chetla Ravi is an Indian national studying in the US on an F-1 student visa. He graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems from Hood College in May 2025, as confirmed by the college's official commencement list. According to his LinkedIn profile, he began his career as a software developer at JPMorgan Chase in September 2025, having previously worked at Bayer, Capgemini, and BYJU'S. Following the video's emergence, Ravi made his Instagram account private, which was previously accessible under the username @akhilesh.ch_98.

Controversy Surrounding the Video

The video has stirred significant debate, with claims suggesting that Ravi was employed at the location where the footage was filmed while on an F-1 visa. This visa type imposes strict restrictions on employment outside of a student's educational institution. Under US immigration regulations, F-1 visa holders are prohibited from working off-campus without special permission, leading some social media users to question whether he breached these rules.

Additionally, the video has sparked discussions regarding firearm regulations. Questions have arisen about the legality of international students possessing firearms in the US. US attorney Andrew Branca expressed his concerns online, stating, 'He's also handling that firearm in a criminally reckless manner.' Another user remarked, 'If the reports are accurate, that’s a serious situation. Displaying a firearm publicly can raise legal issues, especially if the person is on a student visa.'

Many users have raised inquiries about US laws, with one post asking, 'Are immigrants in the US on a student visa allowed to buy or own firearms?' Another user cautioned, 'Social media isn’t a safe place to flaunt weapons or illegal activity. This could have serious legal consequences for him.' Calls for deportation have also surfaced, with some users labeling him 'an enemy of the people.' Numerous individuals tagged US government agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, urging an investigation. As of now, authorities have not released any official comments regarding the video.
