Unverified Allegations by Laura Loomer

Right-wing activist Laura Loomer has recently made a series of unsubstantiated allegations regarding the health of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. Loomer insinuated, without providing any proof, that the 84-year-old senator from Kentucky might be nearing death and raised questions about ongoing renovations at his Washington D.C. residence. These remarks come nearly a month after McConnell reportedly experienced a heart attack and was hospitalized. His office has only confirmed that he is in recovery, offering no additional details about his health status.

On Saturday, Loomer took to X to express skepticism about reports of renovation work occurring at McConnell's home while he remains hospitalized. She questioned, "Who renovates their floors while on life support in the hospital?" and further asked why someone who had suffered a cardiac arrest would undertake such renovations. Loomer characterized the renovations as a potential "massive coverup" and described the situation as "very dark and twisted." She speculated that an announcement regarding McConnell's death could be forthcoming, suggesting that they might claim, "we didn't lie. We did speak to him…" leaving no room for rebuttal.

On Monday, Loomer claimed that a "high-level source close to the White House" informed her that McConnell was "brain dead" and would not return to Congress, although she did not provide any evidence to back this assertion. These claims follow reports indicating that emergency responders were summoned to McConnell's home on June 14 after he was discovered unconscious. Emergency dispatch records reportedly noted that he was unconscious, and CPR was administered before he was transported to the hospital.

McConnell's office and his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, have not disclosed much information beyond stating that the senator is recovering. As public interest in his health grows, media crews have gathered outside his Washington residence. TMZ reported that a producer observed a man bringing in carpet samples and flooring materials on Friday, indicating that renovations were indeed taking place.

Former aide to McConnell, Scott Jennings, dismissed the speculation surrounding the senator's health during a CNN appearance on Thursday. He asserted that McConnell was preparing to return to work and refuted online claims suggesting that the senator was "dead or a vegetable." Jennings mentioned that McConnell had been meeting with some of his staff that afternoon to discuss various Senate issues.

Additionally, neighbors quoted by the Daily Mail noted that McConnell appeared unwell prior to his hospitalization. One neighbor recalled seeing him in a wheelchair, looking "pale, with a blank stare, and his mouth hanging open." Questions have also arisen regarding Elaine Chao's absence from Washington following McConnell's hospitalization. A spokesperson for Chao stated that she was on a "long-planned trip in China" and that the senator's condition did not necessitate her immediate return to the U.S.

Interestingly, Loomer's comments coincided with the news of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham's passing due to what his office described as "a brief and sudden illness" at the age of 71.
