On Monday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid addressed the Indian women's cricket team's choice to decline the Women’s T20 Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC President and PCB chief. In an interview, Khurshid explained that these decisions arise when countries experience differences, necessitating a form of communication through symbolic gestures. He referenced the discussions between the UAE and Iran, noting that despite ongoing conflicts and grievances, dialogue was welcomed, highlighting the importance of positive signals emerging from such interactions.

Refusal of Trophy Amidst Tensions

The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, did not participate in the trophy presentation ceremony after their victory over Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 final. They opted not to accept the trophy from Naqvi due to ongoing tensions related to cross-border terrorism and India's military operations against Pakistan-sponsored threats. This incident echoes a previous refusal by the Indian men's team to accept a trophy from Naqvi after defeating Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final.

Khurshid remarked that if the cricketing body chose to convey a message through this refusal, it was likely a well-considered decision. He stated, "If the cricketing body has recognized the necessity of sending a message and opted to act accordingly, it indicates careful deliberation behind this choice."
