Concerns Rise Over US Weapon Stockpiles Amid Ongoing Iran Conflict
US Military Faces Weapon Shortages in Iran Conflict
As the conflict in Iran enters its fourth week, the Pentagon is increasingly worried about the rapid depletion of its weapon reserves. Reports indicate that the United States has launched over 850 Tomahawk missiles since the war began. This conflict erupted following a joint operation by the US and Israel on February 28, which targeted over 30 sites, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with several key aides and family members. In retaliation, Iran has been attacking energy facilities across Gulf nations, particularly targeting the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar, in addition to strikes against Israel.
Recently, former President Donald Trump announced a temporary halt to US strikes, indicating that diplomatic efforts with Iran are underway. However, he also warned of a potential 'final blow' if negotiations do not succeed. Pentagon officials are expressing concerns regarding the swift depletion of precision weapon stockpiles. According to a report from The Washington Post, discussions are ongoing within the Pentagon to ensure a steady supply of precision munitions. The US relies heavily on missiles launched from naval vessels and submarines, but the exact number of these weapons in the Pentagon's inventory remains undisclosed.
Trump Extends Deadline for Iran to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
On Thursday, Trump announced a delay in his threatened strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure, extending the deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until April 6. He stated that negotiations to resolve the conflict are progressing positively. This decision represents a shift from his previous warnings that the US would target Iranian energy facilities if the vital shipping route remained closed. Iran has warned of retaliation against regional infrastructure, including desalination plants, should the US proceed with its threats.
Following Tehran's rejection of Trump's 15-point ceasefire proposal, the president claimed that Iran was 'begging to make a deal' and urged its leaders to engage seriously in negotiations. His announcement came after a significant drop in US stock prices and a rise in oil prices, as uncertainty loomed over Wall Street regarding the potential resolution of the conflict.
Israel Plans to Intensify Attacks on Iran Amid US Delays
Earlier today, Israeli officials warned of an escalation in their military operations against Iran, as Tehran continues to launch missiles at Israel and Gulf Arab nations. The US military has also maintained its strikes against Iranian targets, while Trump has postponed his threats to destroy Iran's energy facilities due to the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Israel has mobilized thousands of troops into Lebanon, aiming to secure control over the area south of the Litani River, approximately 20 miles (30 kilometers) from the border.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 1,900 fatalities in Iran and nearly 1,100 in Lebanon. In Israel, 18 individuals have lost their lives, including four soldiers killed in Lebanon. Additionally, 13 US military personnel have died, along with numerous civilians in the Gulf region. The war has displaced millions in both Lebanon and Iran.
