Chris Woakes Highlights Ben Stokes' Impact Ahead of Second Test Against India

Woakes Warns of Stokes' Threat

Chris Woakes, the seasoned pacer from England, has issued a caution regarding captain Ben Stokes, emphasizing the significant threat he poses with the Dukes ball as the team prepares for the second Test against India at Edgbaston, part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

In the first innings, Stokes proved to be England's most formidable bowler, skillfully controlling the match's tempo with his accurate line and length. He dismantled India's top order, claiming crucial wickets including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, and Shardul Thakur, finishing with impressive figures of 4/66 in just 15 overs.

Stokes' Dominance on the Field

Stokes set a strong example, leading the charge with the ball and establishing a commanding presence for England, which ultimately led to India's defeat by five wickets as they chased down a target of 371 runs, marking their second-highest successful chase in Test history.

"He was phenomenal, especially considering he hadn't played much cricket leading up to the Test. For him to come in and perform at such a high level was impressive. He looks fit and strong, which is fantastic for us," Woakes remarked during a press conference.

Stokes' Comeback After Injury

Stokes faced challenges with limited game time prior to the series, having suffered a left hamstring tear in New Zealand last December. He made his return in a one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month at Trent Bridge.

To ensure he was in peak condition for the summer, Stokes adopted various strategies, including abstaining from alcohol during his rehabilitation. Woakes acknowledged the hard work Stokes has put in, which was evident in his recent performance.

"We all know his capabilities, and it was fantastic to see him showcase that last week at Headingley. He trains hard and takes his recovery seriously, making it a pleasure to watch him in action," Woakes added.

Woakes Praises Stokes' Dedication

"I sensed his return was imminent. His training has been intense, and his physical condition is impressive. Given his past injuries, he has likely intensified his fitness regimen to lead the team effectively," Woakes continued.

"He demonstrated that last week, and I hope to see more of it throughout the series. The best players constantly strive for improvement, and Ben is no exception," he concluded.

As the second Test approaches, set to commence on Wednesday, England has announced an unchanged XI, aiming to solidify their position in the series.
