Burger King Brings Back Crown Nuggets: A Nostalgic Treat for Fans
Crown Nuggets Make a Comeback
This summer, Burger King is reviving a beloved menu item, the 'crown nuggets,' which have been absent for nearly 15 years. The fast-food giant announced that these nostalgic chicken nuggets will be available starting June 2, both on the kids’ menu and the regular menu, but only while supplies last.
Originally removed from the menu in 2011, these uniquely shaped nuggets can be ordered in an 8-piece serving or included in the $3.99 King Jr. Meal.
A Family-Friendly Revival
The crown-shaped nuggets were a favorite among customers in the early 2000s and early 2010s before their discontinuation. Burger King is marketing their return as a fun, family-oriented event, complete with themed packaging and promotions aimed at younger diners. Kids’ meals will feature fries, apple juice, a coloring crown, a meal bag, and a four-pack of Crayola crayons, thanks to a collaboration with Crayola.
Adults can also enjoy the crown nuggets either on their own or as part of a value meal starting at $3.99, depending on the location.
Mixed Reactions from Customers
The announcement has generated a buzz online, with many fans expressing joy over the return of this childhood favorite. One enthusiastic customer shared, 'I miss them so much,' on social media. However, some voiced doubts about whether the new nuggets would taste the same as they did in the past, speculating that the chicken recipe might have changed over the years. One commenter noted, 'These were the best back in 2005, but I’m afraid now they’ll just be the same current nuggets in a different shape.'
Conversely, others expressed excitement, hoping that the flavor remains true to the original. 'As long as they taste like the original, I’m elated,' one fan remarked.
Part of a Larger Menu Update
The return of the crown nuggets is part of Burger King's broader strategy to refresh its menu and brand identity in 2026. Earlier this year, the chain revamped its signature Whopper, introducing a new bun and updated packaging based on customer feedback. Company executives have indicated that these changes aim to modernize operations while keeping beloved menu items intact.
This revival also comes at a time of increased competition in the fast-food sector, where rivals are consistently launching new products and limited-time offers to draw in customers.
Nostalgia as a Marketing Tool
Industry experts suggest that reintroducing discontinued items has become a prevalent tactic in fast-food marketing, with brands leveraging nostalgia to engage customers and boost short-term sales. For Burger King, the crown nuggets symbolize both a nostalgic return and a test of whether these revived favorites can still appeal to contemporary diners. Regardless of whether the taste matches past memories, the return of the crown nuggets has already succeeded in sparking conversation among customers.
