Meeting of Governors in Guwahati
Itanagar, June 12: On Wednesday, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt General (retd) KT Parnaik, held a meeting with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. The two leaders engaged in a friendly discussion regarding significant regional matters and explored opportunities for collaboration between their states, reaffirming their dedication to fostering peace, progress, and prosperity in the Northeast, as stated in a release from Raj Bhavan.
Governor Parnaik praised the proactive initiatives taken by the Chief Ministers of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in resolving long-standing border disputes. He acknowledged that the ongoing discussions have played a crucial role in promoting harmony and goodwill among communities that share deep cultural and social connections.
Reflecting on his past experience as a Corps Commander in Tezpur, the Arunachal Governor expressed concerns about the ongoing issue of illegal immigration. He stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance and implementing strong administrative measures to tackle this challenge effectively.
During their conversation, both Governors highlighted the transformative impact of the Act East Policy and the ‘Rising Northeast’ initiative, viewing them as key drivers for economic development and regional integration. Governor Parnaik pointed out the Northeast's growing significance as a strategic center for manufacturing, services, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration.
He also emphasized the urgent need for sustainable, long-term strategies to address the annual floods and landslides that devastate the region, resulting in loss of life and significant economic distress, particularly for vulnerable populations.
As a token of goodwill, Governor Parnaik gifted Governor Acharya a copy of “Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh,” a book that highlights the state's rich floral diversity and symbolizes Arunachal's pristine natural heritage, according to the communique.
