Are US and Iran on the Brink of Renewed Talks? Insights into Diplomatic Efforts
Potential Resumption of US-Iran Negotiations
Washington: According to sources, the United States and Iran may be gearing up for a second round of negotiations.
Both parties are considering new face-to-face discussions aimed at finalizing a deal to conclude their ongoing conflict before the ceasefire deadline next week, as reported by two US officials and an individual familiar with the situation.
The sources indicated that talks are still in progress regarding the potential for renewed discussions, with a diplomat from one of the mediating nations suggesting that both Tehran and Washington have tentatively agreed to proceed.
All four individuals requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the diplomatic talks.
It remains uncertain whether the same delegation levels will participate, according to the diplomat and US officials.
The possibility of Islamabad, Pakistan, serving as the host city has been revisited, while Geneva is also being considered. Although the exact venue and timing are yet to be confirmed, the discussions could potentially take place on Thursday.
The White House has not yet responded to requests for comments.
Earlier on Monday, Trump informed reporters that "the other side has reached out to us" and expressed a desire to negotiate a deal.
