Air India Adjusts Flights Amid Rising Tensions in Iran: What Travelers Need to Know
Flight Changes Due to Iran Situation
New Delhi: On Friday, Air India announced that due to the escalating situation in Iran, numerous international flights to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada are being either redirected or returning to their departure points. This decision follows increased tensions between Iran and Israel, raising concerns about the safety of air travel in the region.
Air India stated, “In light of the current developments in Iran and the subsequent closure of its airspace, we are prioritizing the safety of our passengers. Consequently, the following flights are being diverted or returning to their original locations.”
The affected flights include AI130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai (diverted to Vienna), AI102 from New York to Delhi (diverted to Sharjah), AI116 from New York to Mumbai (diverted to Jeddah), AI2018 from London Heathrow to Delhi (diverted to Mumbai), AI129 from Mumbai to London Heathrow (returning to Mumbai), AI119 from Mumbai to New York (returning to Mumbai), AI103 from Delhi to Washington (returning to Delhi), AI106 from Newark to Delhi (returning to Delhi), AI188 from Vancouver to Delhi (diverting to Jeddah), AI101 from Delhi to New York (diverting to Frankfurt/Milan), AI126 from Chicago to Delhi (diverting to Jeddah), AI132 from London Heathrow to Bengaluru (diverted to Sharjah), AI2016 from London Heathrow to Delhi (diverted to Vienna), AI104 from Washington to Delhi (diverted to Vienna), AI190 from Toronto to Delhi (diverted to Frankfurt), and AI189 from Delhi to Toronto (returning to Delhi).
The airline expressed regret for the disruption caused to its passengers and is actively working to minimize the impact, including arranging accommodations for those affected.
Air India further mentioned, “Passengers who choose to cancel their flights or require rescheduling will be offered refunds or complimentary changes. We are also making alternative arrangements to ensure passengers reach their destinations. We encourage all travelers to verify their flight status.”
Previously, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) had issued a notice advising travelers to Iran and Iraq to consult their respective airlines for the latest updates and flight schedules.
Additionally, the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has alerted Indian citizens in Israel to remain cautious, limit unnecessary travel, and adhere to local safety guidelines.
