Successful Evacuation of Indian Fishermen

New Delhi: On Saturday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the safe return of another 312 Indian fishermen from Iran, facilitated through Armenia. He expressed gratitude to the Armenian government for their assistance.

Jaishankar shared the news on social media platform X, stating, "Another 312 Indian fishermen safely evacuated from Iran to India through Armenia. Thank the Government of Armenia and my friend Ararat Mirzoyan for making it possible."

Previously, on April 5, 345 Indian fishermen who were stranded in Iran due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia were successfully brought back to Chennai via Armenia.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that these evacuations are part of India's ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens in conflict zones.

Jaishankar had previously thanked the Armenian government for their role in facilitating these evacuations, highlighting the importance of safe transit for Indian nationals from Iran.

Armenia has played a crucial role in assisting the evacuation of Indian citizens from Iran.

According to the MEA, over 1,200 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Iran, with 996 of them having traveled to Armenia.

In related news, delegations from the United States and Iran have arrived in Islamabad for negotiations aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Gulf region.

US Vice President J.D. Vance landed in Islamabad around 11:15 A.M. (IST) to lead the American team in these critical talks.

This weekend, all eyes are on Islamabad as the US and Iran engage in high-stakes negotiations that could significantly impact stability in the Middle East and the global economy.

Before departing from Joint Base Andrews on Air Force Two, Vance expressed optimism about the discussions, stating, "We’re looking forward to the negotiation. I think it’s going to be positive."

These negotiations represent the first formal engagement between Washington and Tehran in this current phase, occurring under a fragile two-week ceasefire that has temporarily eased regional tensions.

However, uncertainties remain, particularly due to ongoing developments such as Israel's strikes on Hezbollah and disagreements regarding Lebanon's involvement in any potential agreements.

The US delegation includes Vice President Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law. They are expected to advocate for a structured negotiation framework with clear directives from the White House.
