How to worship Maa Skandamata

Devotees should wear clean clothes after morning bath and then meditate keeping in mind the fifth Navadurga form of Mahadevi (Goddess Skandamata). They should chant mantras in praise of Skandamata and worship her by offering akshat (whole grain rice), kumkum, red flower, banana, batasha, kheer, incense, lamp etc. Devotees should complete the puja ritual with ghee lamp or camphor. . During the puja, the couple who have not yet accepted paternity should pray to Maa Skandamata for procreation. According to popular beliefs, her blessings are considered most important for starting a family.

Who is Ma Skandamata?

The word 'Skanda' means Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati and 'Mata' means mother. Maa Skandamata is thus regarded as the mother of Lord Kartikeya or Skanda, also known as Murugan or Subramanya in various parts of India.
