Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi, which starts on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapad, holds great significance as it commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha. In 2024, the festival begins on September 7. This day is particularly special, as it marks the beginning of Ganesh Utsav, a time for worship, celebration, and devotion.

Ganesh Visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi

The grand finale of the Ganesh Utsav occurs on Anant Chaturdashi, where devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha with great enthusiasm. The idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed in water bodies such as lakes, rivers, or ponds, with prayers for his return in the next year.

1.5-Day Ganesh Visarjan

If you are performing a 1.5-day Ganesh puja at home, the Visarjan can take place on the day following Ganesh Chaturthi. The idol installation typically happens during midday on Chaturthi, and the Visarjan is performed after the afternoon of the next day. Hence, it is called the 1.5-day Ganesh Visarjan, which in 2024 falls on Wednesday, September 8.
