Ayodhya: History was created when Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Prana Pratishtha ceremony at the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya on Monday. As soon as the rituals were over, the veil over Ram Lalla's eyes was removed and the public got their first full glimpse of the idol.
Reports say that Ram Lalla's idol was decorated with clothes and jewelery worth Rs 20 crore today. A new 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla carved by Mysore-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj was installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple on Thursday afternoon.
Richly scented flowers brought from Chennai were used to decorate the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. According to an official, more than 3,000 kg of flowers of more than 20 varieties were used to decorate the grand structure. Over 7,000 guests attended the mega ceremony in the temple town which was decorated and many buildings illuminated to add to the aura of the holy city.
Why Sculptor Arun Yogiraj Chose Black Stones from the Tungabhadra River
An idol of Rama Lalla is carved in black stone (Krishna Shile) from Nellikaru village, Karakala, Udupi district, Karnataka. In March 2023, a black stone weighing 10 tonnes was sent to Ayodhya from Karkala. Yogiraj and his team of eight others carved two idols of Ram Lalla in six months. The first name was rejected earlier and the second was later selected by the temple trust.
According to the expert team that visited Nellikaru village, the stone was chosen because it can withstand rain, sun, fire and any extreme conditions.
