150 Women Sarpanches to Celebrate Independence Day at Red Fort, Highlighting Nari Shakti

In a noteworthy move to honor grass-roots leadership, the Narendra Modi government has extended a special invitation to 150 women panchayat heads (sarpanches) who have achieved exceptional success in implementing key government programs. These leaders will attend the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi, marking a significant recognition of their contributions.

Celebrating Achievers in Rural Governance

The invited panchayat leaders have been selected from the list of ‘achievers’ recognized under the Prime Minister’s Awards for Public Administration. This esteemed recognition highlights their outstanding performance in executing government schemes, with the selected sarpanches hailing from five states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Meghalaya, and Uttar Pradesh.

A senior officer involved in the process emphasized that this initiative serves as a dual-purpose outreach by the government. Following recent electoral setbacks in over 50 rural Lok Sabha constituencies, this initiative appears to be a strategic effort by the Modi government to re-engage with rural areas. Modi’s Push for Innovation and Excellence

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which oversees this initiative, has invited these accomplished women panchayat leaders from five states to participate in the Independence Day program at the Red Fort. This event will feature the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, further underscoring the importance of local governance and service delivery in remote villages. The Prime Minister’s Award program was established to foster innovation and effective implementation of government schemes. From the pool of 1,288 panchayat heads recognized for achieving saturation in priority sector schemes, 150 women have been selected for this prestigious invitation.
