A remarkable wildlife sighting has created a buzz in the Bharmour subdivision. Forest officials have reported the presence of a rare white Himalayan Tahr in the Dharol region of the Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary. Known locally as 'Karath,' this striking animal is notable for its unusual coloration, as Himalayan Tahrs are generally brown or dark-hued.
The emergence of a white Tahr is deemed an extraordinary occurrence, given that such color variations are exceedingly rare within this species. In response to this sighting, the Forest Department has heightened monitoring efforts in the vicinity.
Kuldeep Jamwal, the Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife) for Bharmour, Chamba, confirmed the sighting and mentioned that an investigation is underway. He elaborated that the department will look into how this rare variant arrived at the sanctuary, its original habitat, and the areas where such anomalies are typically found.
A specialized team has been assigned to observe the animal closely, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken for its safety and conservation. This sighting has sparked considerable interest among wildlife lovers and conservationists, underscoring the ecological significance of the Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary.
