Rare Indian Grey Wolf Spotted Near Yamuna in Delhi
Sightings of the Indian Grey Wolf
Recently, an Indian grey wolf was observed in the floodplain of the Yamuna River near Palla in Delhi. This area marks the point where the river enters the city.
Last week, on Thursday morning, Hemant Garg, a 41-year-old businessman and wildlife enthusiast, spotted the wolf.
Garg frequently monitors nocturnal wildlife in the Delhi-NCR region. He reported seeing the animal around 7:45 AM along the riverbank. He noted that its gait was unusual, and its fur was a deep brown color, which did not resemble that of typical dogs.
He described, “It was a deep brown color and moved in a distinctive manner, unlike stray dogs. When I approached to take pictures, it quickly dashed into the tall grass.”
After sharing the photos he captured with wildlife experts, many identified striking similarities with the Indian grey wolf. This species has not been officially recorded in Delhi for decades. Several experts have confirmed that the animal is indeed an Indian grey wolf.
