Massive Tree Plantation Initiative in Jaipur
On June 13, Jaipur, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) announced its plan to plant 245,000 trees in the city this year, continuing its commitment to environmental sustainability with community involvement.
According to Anand, the Commissioner of JDA, this year's initiative will see three times the number of trees planted compared to last year's monsoon. Out of the total, 40,000 trees will be distributed to the public at subsidized rates, allowing individuals to obtain up to five fruit-bearing, flowering, or shade trees per ID.
The administrative and financial approvals for the funds allocated for this tree planting initiative have already been granted. Last year, JDA planted 70,000 trees, while this year, 60,000 will be planted at various locations, with distribution occurring at ten centers across the city. The trees will be planted in government offices, schools, hospitals, colonies, colleges, and universities, based on requests from relevant institutions or development committees.
Among the 60,000 trees, several will be planted in parks, including Central Park, with 40,000 trees available for public distribution at a cost of ₹50 each. These trees will be approximately 10 feet tall. Additionally, a significant planting of 100,000 trees will take place at the sewage treatment plant in Gajadharpura, utilizing the Miyawaki technique.
The JDA plans to distribute and plant various species, including Rudra Palash, Kachnar, Beheda, Kamarkh, Gular, Pilkhan, Kusum, Peepal, Kejaliya, Pannata, Amaltas, Molshree, Shahtoot, Keshar, Simia, Chakaranda, Arjun, Jamun, Moringa, Shisham, Neem, Karanj, Amla, Gulmohar, Imli, Belpatra, Bargad, Simul, and Champa. The remaining 45,000 trees will be planted along road dividers and green belts in the city, featuring shrubs like Harshringar, Kaner, Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, Tecoma, Kalindra, Jatropha, Hamelia, Nicodia, and Hora.
Tree planting will occur in various locations, including the JDA Golf Club parking area, Royal City, Nivaru Road, and several other key roads in Jaipur.
The JDA emphasizes the importance of regular care for these trees by the public and institutions to ensure the success of this initiative.
