Every year, the first week of July is dedicated to the celebration of Van Mahotsav, which will take place from July 1 to July 7. Known as the 'Festival of Trees,' this event was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1950 to promote ecological balance and environmental sustainability. The primary aim of this festival is to raise awareness about the importance of trees and forests.

Historical Background

The inception of Van Mahotsav dates back to 1947 when Punjabi botanist M.S. Randhawa organized the inaugural event from July 20 to July 27. This initiative aimed to highlight the devastating effects of deforestation on our diverse flora and fauna.

Significance of the Festival

This year, the festival will run from July 1 to July 7, with an ambitious goal of planting 350 million trees in Uttar Pradesh alone. The main objective is to educate the public about the significance of tree planting. During Van Mahotsav, participants not only plant trees but also learn about the importance of forests, preventing soil erosion, combating climate change, and ensuring clean air and water.

The theme for this year's celebration is 'One Tree in the Name of Mother.' This initiative aims to engage the community in planting 350 million trees through widespread participation.
