Bhitarkanika National Park Set for Major Tourism Revamp: What’s in Store?
Transforming Bhitarkanika: A New Era for Ecotourism
Bhitarkanika, recognized as Odisha's inaugural national park and a key natural attraction, is poised for significant enhancements aimed at boosting tourism. Despite its ecological richness, the park's tourism facilities have not kept pace with other well-known sites in the state.
Various administrations have previously proposed development initiatives, yet tangible progress has been minimal. Currently, the state government is committed to transforming Bhitarkanika into a leading ecotourism hub.
In light of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's recent commitment to its development, Tourism Secretary Balwant Singh has conducted a two-day inspection of Bhitarkanika and its access points.
During his visit, Singh evaluated the park's existing state. Official reports indicate that a comprehensive master plan will soon be drafted to upgrade the park and secure necessary funding.
Singh's itinerary also includes visits to nearby locations such as Gupti, Khola, Chandbali, and Dhamara, with the aim of assessing available government land for potential tourism projects.
A detailed master plan is anticipated to be created soon to initiate development efforts.
With a growing influx of visitors to Pentha beach, plans are underway to establish a Blue Flag beach there, according to officials.
New jetties will be constructed at various locations including Gupti, Khola, Dangamal, Bhitarkanika, Chandbali, Jaynagar Ghat, and Kasturikana.
In the Dangamal Creek area, a footpath made of paver blocks will be developed, along with a new entry gate at the Dangamal access point.
An interpretation center and food court are also planned, alongside a parking facility near Aranya Nivas, the forest rest house.
The district administration has been instructed to compile a report on the availability of government land at these sites to facilitate the proposed infrastructure enhancements.
Officials including DFO Sudarshan Gopinath Yadav, ADM Manas Kumar Das, Eastern Division Superintendent Engineer Ratikanta Behera, Assistant Executive Engineer Krupasindhu Dhal, and Assistant Engineer Biswa Ranjan Swain have conducted inspections over the past two days.
