Swastika Mukherjee's Voting Dilemma

Renowned Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee has voiced her concerns regarding the inefficiency of the election commission after discovering that her name was not included in the voter list for the ongoing West Bengal Elections 2026. The elections are currently underway, with the first phase covering 152 seats across 16 districts. In a recent interview, the actress from Paatal Lok revealed that both she and her sister, Ajopa Mukherjee, were unable to cast their votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. She admitted that she did not have the time or opportunity to confirm her name's presence on the list after a previous incident.

Swastika Mukherjee's Voting Experience

During a discussion with News18 Bangla, Swastika expressed her belief that her name was indeed missing from the voter list. She mentioned her lack of patience to contact officials to resolve the issue, ultimately deciding to stay home instead of participating in the voting process. The Qala actress remains hopeful about being able to vote in future elections. Reflecting on her experience from 2024, she shared on Instagram that she had lost her voter ID card, while her sister Ajoba had retained hers. As a result, Ajoba was able to vote last year, but this year, both sisters found their names absent from the list. “I have never encountered anything more frustrating than this,” Swastika lamented.

The actress also pointed out that her parents' names are still on the list, while she noted the irony of deceased individuals remaining listed. Swastika found it troubling that many eligible voters are unable to participate due to their names being missing from the voter rolls in India.
