Tarantino's Decision on the Sequel

Los Angeles: Renowned director Quentin Tarantino has disclosed that he opted out of directing the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood because the concept did not excite him. Although he will not be at the helm, he expressed his willingness to assist with the film's production if necessary.

The original film, released in 2019, boasted a stellar cast including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie, and was set in Los Angeles during 1969. It achieved significant commercial success, earning over $392 million globally.

Tarantino, who has indicated his desire to retire after completing his tenth film, stated that he prefers not to conclude his career with a sequel. He commended David Fincher for taking on the directing role for the upcoming sequel.

"I appreciate this script, but I feel like I'm retracing my steps. It doesn't inspire me... For my final film, I need to explore new territory," he shared during an episode of The Church of Tarantino podcast.

"I believe David Fincher and I are among the top directors. The fact that he wants to adapt my work reflects a serious commitment to my craft that deserves recognition," he added.

Tarantino assured fans that he would be available for consultation, stating, "I’m traveling between here and Israel, so I won’t be on set every day. However, I’ll be around if they need my input."

In the sequel, Pitt will reprise his role as Cliff Booth, with the script penned by Tarantino. The release date has yet to be announced.

The director also discussed his abandoned project, The Movie Critic, which he described as a potential "spiritual sequel" to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

"I found it intriguing. I challenged myself to make the most mundane profession captivating on screen... Who would want to watch a show about a movie critic? That was the test. If I could make it engaging, that would be a true achievement," he remarked.

He clarified that despite its initial concept as a spiritual sequel, there would be no character crossover. "Cliff Booth was never part of The Movie Critic," he confirmed.
