Mumbai: Actress Payal Ghosh has shared her thoughts on the ongoing debate between South Indian cinema and Bollywood, asserting that the former exhibits greater professionalism and clarity.

In a recent discussion about the contrasting work environments of the two film industries, Payal expressed her gratitude for the opportunities she has received in both sectors. She stated, “Having worked in both industries, I appreciate the experiences I’ve had.”

Payal noted that she perceives the South Indian film industry as more refined and organized. She remarked, “There is a clear understanding of objectives in South cinema, unlike in Bollywood. Everyone, from the lead actors to the crew, is treated equally and is committed to enhancing the project. If the crew is scheduled to arrive at 7 AM, the lead actors are also present on time.”

She contrasted this with Bollywood, where she feels the approach is more spontaneous. “In Bollywood, it’s often about going with the flow. I’ve seen instances where plans change drastically. If they announce a 7 AM start, shooting rarely begins before 11 AM.”

Further elaborating on the differences, Payal stated, “The South has a clearer vision and adheres to the storyboard throughout production and post-production. In Bollywood, however, there can be a disconnect between what is planned and what is executed. Frequently, shots are filmed without a clear direction, leaving it to the editor to make sense of it later.”

Ultimately, she concluded that both Bollywood and South Indian cinema have their unique strengths and weaknesses. “We should celebrate both industries, as they significantly contribute to the enchantment of the Indian film landscape,” Payal remarked.
