Both actors had recently collaborated in the film adaptations of 'Wicked,' and were initially set to lead this project, with Bailey taking on the role of the artist George Seurat.

He referred to Grande as one of his closest friends and acknowledged that while the musical was a project close to his heart, he believed it was the appropriate moment to step back.
