Final Schedule of 'Om' Kicks Off in Malaysia
Chennai: According to industry insiders, the much-anticipated action film Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and starring Tamil icon Dhanush alongside Malayalam legend Mammootty, has commenced its final shooting schedule in Malaysia.
Reports indicate that filming began on Sunday, with social media buzzing as clips surfaced showing Dhanush interacting with fans and signing autographs in Malaysia.
While the film's release is currently set for October 16, 2026, there are rumors that the date may be revised, with an official announcement expected soon.
Just last Thursday, the production team welcomed acclaimed Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah to the cast, sharing the news on social media. Wunderbar Films, Dhanush's production company, expressed excitement about Shah's involvement, stating, "A strong addition to the world of #OM. The veteran #NaseeruddinShah on board the mega biggie. Coming to cinemas worldwide October 16th 2026."
Notably, the film's title features a tagline 'Chapter 1', hinting at the possibility of a sequel.
A teaser released earlier revealed that the plot centers around individuals involved in the illegal harvesting of red sanders, with Dhanush portraying a woodcutter. The footage depicted police apprehending woodcutters, with Dhanush stepping in to rescue them.
Wunderbar Films' Head Sreyas mentioned at the teaser launch that this film is set to be one of the highest-budget projects in Dhanush's career, promising to showcase the beloved vintage Dhanush that fans have missed.
The film also stars Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela as the leading ladies, with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar. Cinematography is handled by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan R, and costumes designed by Kavya Sriram.
Recently, the production team warmly welcomed Mammootty, with Wunderbar Films stating, "When the Big M chooses a story, it becomes history. Super excited to welcome Megastar @mammukka onboard #D55! We are honoured! Thank you #Mammootty sir."
Additionally, it was announced that R Take Studios will collaborate with Wunderbar Films to produce this exciting project.
