After a long hiatus of 14 years, Akshay Kumar is reuniting with director Priyadarshan for the upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. Additionally, he is collaborating with Ekta Kapoor on a horror comedy project. The trailer for Bhooth Bangla was launched in Mumbai on April 6, 2026, where Ekta, the head of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, revealed an interesting anecdote about Akshay. She shared that he once returned money to her after a previous film they worked on did not perform well, a gesture she found unprecedented in her career.

During the trailer launch, Ekta expressed her long-standing desire to work with Akshay again. She recounted a lesser-known story about their first collaboration, which did not fare well at the box office. Following the film's release, Akshay reached out to her for a meeting. The next day, he surprised her by presenting a cheque, stating it was a refund for her losses.

Ekta expressed her surprise at Akshay's gesture, stating, "People don’t know this side of him. He came with a cheque and said, 'This is a refund for you. You've incurred a loss.' I was shocked. Nobody does this. In my 31 years, no one else has done this."

Ekta recalled that Akshay casually handed her the cheque and suggested she should make a film with him instead. She replied, 'No, Sir, you should do a film for me. I’ll earn a lot if you make a film with me.' This led to the creation of Bhooth Bangla. The film that did not perform well was Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara (2013), directed by Milan Luthria, which also starred Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.


Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla features a star-studded cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, the late Asrani, Paresh Rawal, Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, and Rajesh Sharma. The Hindi film is scheduled for release on April 17, with paid previews starting at 9 PM on April 16. It is co-produced by Ekta, Shobha Kapoor, and Akshay through his production company, Cape of Good Films.

The plot unfolds in the fictional town of Mangalpur, where the locals believe that marriage should be avoided to prevent the monster Vadhusur from appearing. Akshay's character inherits a spooky mansion and soon discovers that the legends surrounding it may hold some truth.
