Jamie Lever Opens Up About Traumatic Childhood Incidents

Mumbai: Comedian and actress Jamie Lever, renowned for her comedic talent and celebrity impersonations, recently recounted a distressing incident from her school days that left a lasting impact on her.

In a conversation with Hauterrfly, Jamie, the daughter of famous comedian Johny Lever, shared a troubling memory from her childhood when a man exhibited inappropriate behavior right outside her school in Vile Parle, Mumbai.

She recalled, “After school, my driver told me to stay inside the car. I was in the backseat with a friend, waiting for my brother. Suddenly, a man approached the car, exposed himself, and began to masturbate. I was so stunned that I couldn't comprehend what was happening. I was trembling, fearing he might open the door. I cautiously locked the doors, and when he realized we weren't paying attention, he walked away.”

The incident left Jamie so disturbed that she felt unable to discuss it with her parents or her friend. “We were too young to understand what had occurred, and it was terrifying,” she explained.

Sadly, this was not the only unsettling experience she endured. Jamie also disclosed that the bus conductor, a person meant to protect children, would sometimes behave inappropriately. “It makes you question who you can trust,” she remarked.

She recounted another unsettling moment at Andheri station, where a man flashed her while she was on the stairs. “I froze again, not knowing how to respond. My friend quickly pulled me away and urged me to keep moving. Such incidents linger within you,” she shared.

These repeated experiences of harassment affected her ability to form close relationships, especially with men. “I built a wall around myself. For a long time, I didn’t feel safe dating or even interacting with men,” she admitted, noting that it was only during her postgraduate studies in London that she began to heal.

Despite these challenges, Jamie has forged a successful career in entertainment. She made her Bollywood debut in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (2015) and has since featured in various films, including Housefull 4, Yaatris, Crakk, and Bhoot Police. In 2024, she ventured into South Indian cinema with her Telugu film Aa Okatti Adakku.

In addition to her film work, Jamie has gained popularity on social media for her comedic reels and celebrity impersonations of stars like Kareena Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Farah Khan.
