What Led to Shubhankar Mishra's Apology Over Controversial Video About Lord Jagannath?
Influencer's Apology Sparks Discussion
Bhubaneswar: Shubhankar Mishra, a social media influencer, has issued an unconditional apology following backlash for a video that allegedly offended devotees of Lord Jagannath. The controversy arose from a statement made in his video regarding the 12th-century temple.
In his YouTube address, Mishra clarified that he never intended to offend anyone and aimed to share information about religious topics. He stated, “I had mentioned that the Shree Jagannath Temple was cursed by Radha Rani, based on information I found online and from various sources.”
He expressed regret for any hurt caused by his comments, emphasizing his devotion to Lord Jagannath. Mishra has since removed the video and acknowledged receiving advice from friends and supporters regarding the matter.
In the contentious video, he suggested that unmarried couples visiting the temple might experience breakups due to an alleged curse from Radha Rani.
Authorities have filed a case against him at the Singhadwar Police station in Puri, citing sections of the law that address actions intended to provoke religious sentiments. Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida, who also serves as the deputy chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), mentioned that a committee is currently reviewing the video.
