In a recent interview, she recounted how the show's director criticized her for her 'Gavthi Marathi' accent. Currently, she stars in a Marathi series called Kamali and previously played a significant role in Kundali Bhagya. During the shoot, the director reprimanded her for using her Marathi accent while speaking Hindi, which left her feeling embarrassed in front of a large crew of 200 people.

Like many other Marathi actresses, including Swati Chitnis and Manasi Salvi, Sushma has worked in various Hindi projects. However, she faced a unique challenge while filming Kundali Bhagya. In an interview with Rajshri Marathi, she shared that the director was seated at a distance, and while performing a scene, she mixed Hindi with Marathi. At that moment, the director raised his voice, stating, “Aapka gavthi Marathi nahi chalega. Ekdum barabar Hindi boliye.” (Your village-type Marathi will not work. Speak Hindi properly). Accepting the feedback, Sushma responded with a simple ‘okay’ and went on to deliver a flawless performance.

Sushma acknowledged that many Marathi actors struggle with accent issues when working in Hindi cinema or television. She noted that while her Hindi has improved significantly, her command of Marathi has suffered. Upon returning to Marathi projects, she was even advised to play a character with a speech impairment due to her difficulties with the language. Despite these challenges, Sushma maintained a positive outlook, often reminding herself, “I am the best,” and focused on improving her language skills. This experience highlighted for her the importance of mastering multiple languages, as effective communication in regional dialects is crucial for success in the entertainment industry.
