Casey Affleck Reflects on Matt Damon's Rise to Fame

Los Angeles: Actor Casey Affleck has always believed in his friend Matt Damon’s potential to shine in Hollywood. Affleck expressed that he had 'no doubt' about Damon becoming a significant star.

At 51, Affleck reminisced about living with his older brother Ben Affleck and their childhood friend while pursuing their acting aspirations.

During a recent appearance at the Zurich Film Festival, he reflected on the early signs of talent that Damon exhibited. He shared, 'We all had the same theatre teacher, and many actors came through this theater department. We were part of a large public school, and our theatre teacher inspired us to fall in love with acting.'

Affleck noted, 'Matt was always a bit of a showoff. He was outgoing and participated in talent shows. There was no question about his direction, while the rest of us were still figuring things out.'

The Affleck brothers were motivated to act by their parents, with their father serving as a stage manager. Casey has also starred in films like Good Will Hunting and Ocean's Eleven.

He remarked, 'Matt is incredibly talented. He possesses a unique movie star persona, a matinee idol charm, which Ben and I don’t quite share. Ben has embraced the leading man role from the start.'

'I realized that I would always be seen as an outsider, regardless of my achievements. Winning an Oscar or starring in a blockbuster doesn’t change public perception easily. I contemplated this and concluded, 'Am I crazy? I love being an outsider. I prefer that over being an insider in Hollywood. The culture isn’t appealing to me, and I’m content being viewed as an outsider.'
