Waqar Younis Acknowledges India's Dominance in T20 World Cup After Pakistan's Defeat

Pakistan's Struggles Against India in T20 World Cup

Waqar Younis, the former pace bowling star of Pakistan, has recognized Team India's superiority over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup following a disappointing 61-run loss at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15.

The much-anticipated match between India and Pakistan turned out to be lopsided, with the Men in Green failing to perform under pressure. Chasing a target of 176 runs, Pakistan's batting lineup faltered, collapsing for just 114 runs in 18 overs against a formidable Indian bowling attack.

With this victory, Team India has solidified its dominance in T20 World Cup matches, marking their eighth win in nine encounters against Pakistan, showcasing an impressive track record.

Waqar Younis Expresses Frustration

Waqar Younis, who participated in three World Cups (1996, 1999, and 2003), voiced his disappointment regarding Pakistan's ongoing struggles against India. He lamented the one-sided nature of their rivalry in recent years.

During a discussion on Star Sports after the match, Waqar acknowledged India's consistent edge over Pakistan in T20 World Cups, stating that the rivalry has become excessively one-sided and that Pakistan has had 'enough' of this trend.

He remarked, 'The domination of this fixture by India would undoubtedly be annoying for Pakistan. This marks their 11th consecutive win in Men's ICC T20 World Cups.' He further added, 'Alright! Enough. Leave it there. We’ve had enough of that. India have been too good in the last 15-20 years, I would say.'

Pakistan's Path to Super 8

Pakistan began their T20 World Cup campaign strongly, securing two consecutive victories against the Netherlands and the USA before facing their first defeat against India.

Currently, Pakistan holds the third position in Group A with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of -0.403 after three matches. The USA is in second place with the same points but a superior NRR of +0.787. To advance to the Super 8, Pakistan must significantly improve their NRR.

Their upcoming match against Namibia is critical, as a substantial victory is necessary to enhance their NRR and keep their Super 8 hopes alive. Meanwhile, India has already secured their spot in the Super 8 with three consecutive wins, joining South Africa and West Indies in the next round.
