Vijay's Political Triumph: Insights from Bigil Co-star Indraja Shankar
Vijay's Political Journey and Its Impact
Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), made a remarkable entry into the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 out of 234 seats despite only two years of political experience. His success can be attributed to his strong connection with the youth and women. Analyzing his filmography reveals that he has portrayed numerous characters advocating for women's rights, which significantly resonated with voters. Notably, his 2019 film Bigil stands out in this regard. Indraja Shankar, who portrayed Pandiyamma in the film, shared her thoughts on Vijay's victory and its implications for Tamil Nadu.
Indraja Shankar Reflects on Vijay's Victory
Indraja Shankar described Thalapathy Vijay as a source of inspiration, noting that his transition from a mass hero to a people's leader signifies a transformative journey. She remarked, "His vision embodies change, equality, and empowerment for the youth. He has consistently upheld strong values, both in his films and in real life."
Reflecting on her collaboration with him in Bigil, she emphasized his leadership qualities, stating, "During the filming of Bigil, I observed how he respected everyone on set. That same respect could make him a relatable Chief Minister. I am thrilled about his victory."
In Bigil, Vijay portrayed a football coach for an all-women's team, showcasing his character's support for the female athletes as they faced various challenges. The film featured a talented cast, including Indhuja Ravichandran, Reba Monica John, Amritha Aiyer, and Varsha Bollama, and was directed by Atlee, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2019. Indraja Shankar has also appeared in films like Viruman and Aghathiyaa, and she is the daughter of the late actor Robo Shankar, who passed away in 2025.
About Vijay's Upcoming Film Jana Nayagan
Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, is anticipated to be Vijay's last film before he fully commits to his political career. Initially set for release on January 9, 2026, the film's launch has been postponed indefinitely due to certification issues with the censor board. Following this, the entire film was leaked online, leading to illegal circulation.
In response to the leak, the producers have pursued legal action against social media accounts that disseminated clips and links from the film. Reports indicate that the project has already incurred losses before its official release, primarily due to the piracy incident. The film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju.
