Vijay's Jana Nayagan Receives CBFC Certification After Delays
Jana Nayagan Gets A Certification
The highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, featuring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has finally secured its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after a prolonged wait. The film has been rated A, with the board recommending 12 modifications, which include the elimination of specific words, visuals, and references. Notably, the term TVK, associated with Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has been removed. Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the release date is expected to be revealed shortly.
Details of Censor Changes in Jana Nayagan
Jana Nayagan has been granted an A certificate by the CBFC following nearly seven months of delays. The final cut of the film will see 12 edits, including the removal of two curse words. A significant alteration was the exclusion of the term TVK. In the film, Vijay portrays a character named Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, abbreviated as TVK. However, in the political context, TVK refers to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the party established by Vijay. The certification report indicated that a dialogue at the 110:23-minute mark, which included 'Ambedkar sattam... to... TVK sattam', was modified to eliminate the TVK reference from both audio and visuals without changing the film's runtime.
The censor board also mandated the removal of visuals depicting the Indian flag touching the ground, muting several words such as 'Bhagavatham,' 'Ranganathar,' and other inappropriate language, along with the term OM. Additionally, references to a New India were deleted, and scenes involving a hanging sequence and an inappropriate DC office badge were altered. Certain dialogues were muted, including those with body-related references and the phrase 'India la kalla virala vaikarne.' Violent imagery, such as a child being burned, was cut, the term 'Siluvaila' was muted, and the character name 'Sheela Rani' was changed.
Runtime and Release Expectations
The final runtime of Jana Nayagan is 3 hours and 3 minutes. KVN Productions is anticipated to announce the official release date soon, with speculation pointing towards a July launch. Directed by H Vinoth, the film features a star-studded cast including Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, and Narain. Initially, the film was set for a Pongal release on January 9 but encountered delays during the certification process. After several reviews, KVN Productions sought expedited approval from the Madras High Court. The delay persisted even as a high-definition version of the film was leaked online, prompting a police investigation and subsequent arrests.
