Vijay Addresses Fans Amid Divorce Proceedings and Political Transition
Vijay's Challenging Year: From Cinema to Politics
Actor Vijay is navigating a tumultuous period as he prepares to transition from acting to a political career. During a Women's Day event, the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) addressed his fans and party members, discussing the delay of his upcoming film, Jana Nagayan, alongside the divorce proceedings initiated by his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam. In his initial public remarks, he urged his supporters to remain unhurt by the unfolding events.
Vijay's Message to Supporters Amid Divorce Developments
At the political gathering, Vijay spoke candidly about the various controversies surrounding him. He reassured his fans, stating, “Let’s focus on issues that matter to the people. Personal matters are not worth your distress.”
The Leo star referenced a new petition filed by Sangeetha in their divorce case. Previously, she had filed for divorce after 26 years of marriage, alleging Vijay's involvement in an extramarital affair. This latest petition follows Vijay's attendance at the wedding reception of Kalpathi Suresh’s son, where he was seen leaving with actress Trisha Krishnan.
Additionally, Vijay's film, Jana Nayagan, is currently facing delays due to ongoing disputes with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Details of Sangeetha's New Petition
Sangeetha has requested an interim court order to remain in their shared home during the legal proceedings. As a UK citizen without property in India, she has also asked for alternative accommodation and a fair amount of permanent alimony.
Married in August 1999, Vijay and Sangeetha share two children: a son, Jason Sanjay, and a daughter, Divya Shasha. In her petition, Sangeetha has cited adultery and cruelty as grounds for divorce under the Special Marriage Act of 1954, claiming that Vijay's alleged affair has caused her significant emotional distress. She also mentioned that Vijay had warned her against pursuing legal separation, stating she would not be permitted to stay in their home.
