Valerie Perrine, renowned for her performances in Bob Fosse's Lenny (1974) and the Superman series, has passed away at the age of 82 at her home in Beverly Hills. The news of her death was announced by her friend Stacey Souther on social media. Souther also shared a GoFundMe link to assist with Perrine's burial, as she wished to be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Since her diagnosis with Parkinson's disease in 2015, Perrine had faced significant medical expenses that strained her finances.

In her tribute, Souther highlighted Perrine's remarkable strength in battling Parkinson’s disease, noting that she faced her challenges with grace and never complained. Souther expressed, "She was a true inspiration who lived life to the fullest — and what a magnificent life it was. The world feels less beautiful without her in it." Additionally, she urged fans to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign to honor Perrine's final wish.
Early Life of Valerie Perrine
Perrine, who made her acting debut in Slaughterhouse-Five (1972), was born in Galveston, Texas. Her mother was a dancer, and her father served as a lieutenant colonel in the US Army. She gained attention by appearing in Playboy magazine, featuring in the May 1972 issue and gracing the cover of the August 1981 edition. Notably, in 1973, she became the first actress to intentionally appear nude on US television during a PBS broadcast of Bruce Jay Friedman’s Steambath on Hollywood Television Theater.
Hollywood Breakthrough
Perrine received widespread acclaim for her role in Fosse's film Lenny, where she portrayed Honey Bruce, earning her an Oscar nomination. She was honored as Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975 and received the BAFTA for Most Promising Newcomer. Following this success, she starred in WC Fields and Me (1976) and Mr Billion (1977), but she became widely recognized as Miss Teschmacher in the first two Superman films alongside Christopher Reeve. The character will be portrayed by Sara Sampaio in the upcoming Superman remake by James Gunn in 2025. Perrine's filmography also includes The Electric Horseman (1979), Can’t Stop the Music (1980), The Border (1982), and Water (1985). In the 1990s, she made guest appearances on popular shows such as Northern Exposure, Homicide: Life on the Street, and ER. Her last film appearance was in the 2016 movie Silver Skies.
