Vaazha 2: A New Milestone in Malayalam Cinema

The Malayalam film industry has a new champion at the box office. The coming-of-age comedy-drama, Vaazha 2: Biopic Of A Billion Bros, has achieved an incredible feat by becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Kerala's history, accomplishing this in just 25 days. Remarkably, the film features a cast of newcomers and popular content creators, rather than established stars, making its success even more impressive.

Vaazha 2 Surpasses Lokah Chapter 1

Vaazha 2 has dethroned Kalyani Priyadarshan's Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which previously held the record with earnings of Rs 120.85 crore. Thudarum followed closely with Rs 118.90 crore. By the end of its fourth weekend, Vaazha 2 had amassed around Rs 121 crore in Kerala, surpassing Lokah Chapter 1's record. This achievement solidifies its position as the top Malayalam film at the Kerala box office.

Industry experts highlight that Vaazha 2 reached the Rs 100 crore milestone in Kerala in just 16 days, making it the third Malayalam film of the 21st century to sell over 80 lakh tickets in the state, joining the ranks of iconic films like Pulimurugan. Directed by debutant Savin SA and penned by Vipin Das, the film stars well-known Malayalam content creators such as Hashir, Alan Bin Siraj, Ajin Joy, and Vinayak V. With a production budget of around Rs 10 crore, the film has delivered an outstanding return on investment.

Vaazha 2's Global Success

The film's triumph extends beyond Kerala, grossing over Rs 124 crore in the state and exceeding Rs 220 crore globally within 25 days. This positions Vaazha 2 among the top Malayalam theatrical releases of the year. It currently ranks behind Thudarum, Manjummel Boys, Lokah Chapter 1, and L2: Empuraan in the list of the highest-grossing Malayalam films worldwide. With a Telugu-dubbed version recently released and night shows maintaining over 40% occupancy in major cities, analysts predict that the film will continue its successful run into May.
