Uttarakhand Minister Denies Apology to Daler Mehndi Amid Performance Controversy
Minister Clarifies Stance on Apology Rumors
Subodh Uniyal, the Cabinet Minister of Uttarakhand, has officially dismissed claims that he apologized to singer Daler Mehndi following a public altercation at the Kunjapuri Mela. This clarification directly counters assertions made by Mika Singh’s team, who suggested that a phone call between the two had resulted in an apology from the minister.
In a recent discussion with Satya Vani, Uniyal addressed the swirling rumors about his actions, asserting that the idea of him offering an apology was completely baseless. He questioned the need for such a gesture, asking if he had done anything wrong that would necessitate an apology. This statement intensifies the ongoing dispute, which began when Daler Mehndi's performance was disrupted during the event.
Minister's Perspective on Performance Expectations
Uniyal emphasized that the responsibility for the incident lay with the performer, not the event organizers or officials. He argued that if the singer was unwell, he should have either opted out of the performance or informed the audience and organizers about his condition beforehand. The minister noted that attendees had specific expectations that were not fulfilled during the show.
Additionally, he brought up the financial details of the event, claiming that the singer was paid Rs 26 lakh. Uniyal expressed his disappointment with the outcome, suggesting that accepting such a fee while failing to meet audience expectations was problematic. His comments reveal a stark contrast between his viewpoint and the claims made by the singer’s representatives.
Diverging Narratives in the Dispute
The minister’s strong denial directly contradicts the account provided by Mika Singh’s team. Earlier reports indicated that the team believed an apology had been made during a phone conversation, a gesture they publicly welcomed, highlighting the importance of treating artists with respect. The conflicting narratives have sparked a wider conversation about the expectations placed on artists during live performances.
Currently, both parties remain steadfast in their respective accounts of the incident. While the singer's team had previously indicated a willingness to resolve the matter, Uniyal’s recent statements suggest that the controversy is far from over. There has been no further communication from the singer’s camp following the minister's denial, leaving the situation unresolved.
